This exhibition is a visual and thematic journey through the rich Christian heritage of Jordan, inspired by the country’s distinctive environment, historical significance, and artistic traditions. The design of the exhibition draws on the vibrant colors, shapes, pilgrimage routes and sites that have shaped Jordan’s Christian identity over the centuries, blending them with local cultural elements to create a deeply meaningful experience for visitors.
The logo of the exhibition is inspired by the intricate mosaics that are a hallmark of Jordanian Christian art. Mosaics have long been used to convey spiritual stories and beliefs, and the logo reflects this tradition, symbolizing the connection between faith, art, and place. The two primary colors used in the design—black and the hues of Petra’s rose-colored stones—carry profound significance. Black represents the Christian clergy, a reminder of the sacred role that religious leaders have played in guiding the faithful. The rose-colored tones are evocative of Petra, an iconic Jordanian landmark, and reflect the early Christian churches in Jordan, many of which are tied to the history of the region’s Christian communities.
The labyrinth featured in the design is a powerful allusion to the persecution of early Christians. Labyrinths, often seen as symbols of spiritual journeys, represent the trials and tribulations faced by Christians during times of oppression. This element in the exhibition serves as a reminder of the resilience and enduring faith of early Christian communities, who persevered through oppression while maintaining their devotion.
The use of arches in the exhibition design is another key element, drawing inspiration from the architectural traditions of Jordan. Arches are a prominent feature of Jordanian architecture, seen in ancient churches, monasteries, and other religious structures. Their inclusion in the exhibition’s design honors the rich architectural legacy of the region, which continues to stand as a testament to Jordan’s Christian history.
Through these carefully chosen symbols and design elements, the exhibition invites visitors to explore how artifacts tell the story of faith, perseverance, and cultural identity. The exhibition not only highlights the significance of Christian heritage in Jordan but also emphasizes how the land itself—its landscapes, colors, and architecture—has shaped the spiritual lives of its people. By immersing visitors in these elements, the exhibition creates a deeper understanding of the profound connections between faith, art, and the sacred sites that have defined the Christian journey in Jordan through the centuries.
This exhibition is an invitation to delve into the depths of history in our beloved country, Jordan, and to reflect on how we can draw inspiration from our cultural and spiritual roots to shape our future through our belief that: “We Are Jordan, We are the Dawn of Christianity”.
